Single still

               When a hard working man succeeded in his life, owning a decent job, people including the family and friends keep asking him about having a wife and normal life. That was the case with Mr Blind who worked in a prosperous company. The chief executive officer barely thought about marriage. Accordingly, he is quiet against arranged marriage regardless of the insistence of his relatives who searched for a suitable bride to be for him. But he believes in Amborse Briece’s doctrine about a bride: ‘A woman with a fine prospect of happiness behind her'. He had not yet found such kind of women.

          Hearing about different young girls and suggestions of friends and relatives became a habit that no more disturbs Blind’s ears. He promised himself not to marry until he travelled the world and some famous places. Long time passed seemingly years but Blind was still enjoying bachelorhood but not solitude. Fearing to be accused of adultery or not keeping a given word; he had never discussed marriage with the girls he met.

             One day coming back from a long day of work, he decided to take the metro train. He let his car in the parking lot of the company. He felt so tired that he had neither mood nor ability to drive directly home. Heading to his house, he thought about having a drink in his favourite calm night club. On board of the metro, a group of young passengers embarked in rush trying to find a free sit. They dispersed immediately on the compartments. Suddenly, a different young girl with light make on face followed the crowd. She decided to sit on the empty space near Blind after her careful glance on the people that were in the compartment. Gone was the fatigue that had overcome Blind. The perfume on the lady’s dress filled his nose. He took a newspaper from his bag and started zapping on the bold titles. There was some celebrities’ gossip on the newspaper in addition to the economics news. Her perpetual sneaks to have a glimpse on the newspapers provoked him to give it to her. Little was said because no one felt at ease. It was a bit warm. She took a small bottle and two small plastic cups from her bag. She drank some and recommended him some with a gesture. He smiled and took the cup. He drank half full cup.

           When Blind woke up, there was no one but an old man sitting prior to him. He was surprised. He asked the man about the point the train reached. He was shocked when he heard that it is about to reach the terminus or the final station. Worse was the discovery of being robbed. There was no bag, no cell phone, nor his wallet that contained all his cards. He was too furious because he had neither some money to go back home nor a cell phone to contact someone to rescue him. Amidst the turmoil of ideas, flashback and amalgamation of negative feelings Blind decided to go to the police office on the terminus. It was there where he declared what happen to him. The police officer replied that a couple of young men of Blind’s age had had same story.

              Back home, Blind had not informed anyone about the incident. In the morning, he asked his brother to lend him his credit card claiming that he forgot his wallet on the office. When he got to work by a taxicab, he assigned his vice his place for three days holiday. The vice was amazed but happy to be in charge of the company. He felt a boss like power.

              Blind kept commuting in the metro going forth and back, day and night with a view to meet the lady who had deceived him.  He worn out but the anti-sleeping pills kept him awake with half open red eyes. On the threshold of the short holiday’s end, despair started to overmaster him. Suddenly, he saw the lady that he was looking for, sitting by a young man. He sneaked to where he can watch her but she couldn’t.  He turned on the camera that was on his glasses. He was filming her. She resorted to the old same procedure to entrap her prey.                                     

Eventually, when she is done and decided to get off the train, he caught her red-handed. She was yelling and said that he had no right to accuse her. On the station, a group of people gathered in rush. The police came in and there was no more chaos.  In the police office, Blind told that the lady was the one who robbed him. He added that she had done the same to others. He handed the video he had filmed earlier as a testimony. The police told the lady that she had the right to remain silent until she found a lawyer. He recommended to confess for that is may abate the punishment if she would be found guilty. She burst into tears and said that she was abused in her childhood by men. She was also a victim of her boyfriends who took advantage of her. That was the driving force behind the hatred she had on men. It was then that she decided to take revenge by depriving men from their precious things and power.
          When the police checked her house, they found many bags and wallets including Blind’s ones. She was sentenced to five years of rehab. People got back their lost materials.

           Blind who had had a rush on the lady changed his feelings. It could have been a love at first sight but the hardships she caused him made him to change his mind. He finally decided to be a single as he was and still.
